Description of Organization
The Center for Craft & Applied Arts is an ambitious, dynamic, and urban craft organization founded in 2015 whose mission is to support, promote, and organize craft in Detroit through education, exhibitions, public programs, community outreach, and economic development. As we move into our 9,000 sq ft facility in 2018 the CCAA will become a nationally recognized craft organization that will set trends and standards for Craft in the United States. Robust educational programming will provide skill-based training and recreational opportunities, while the Center’s exhibitions, public and economic development programs will ensure the CCAA is a local, regional, and national destination where visitors can engage with craft objects, learn how they are made, appreciate their artistry, and gain support towards a career in creative production. Currently the CCAA runs 4 programs, has 4 programs in development for 2018, and is in the process of realizing rapid financial and organizational growth in advance of assuming their new facility in 2018.

Description of Position
The Program Officer will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Center for Craft & Applied Arts. They will report to the executive director who will assign tasks related to the effective implementation of the CCAA’s eight programs. Tasks may range from writing, design, and formatting documents, to managing databases, to assisting in setting up and staffing events.

- Assisting in the day to day operations of the organization
- Document and database management via google drive
- Recruiting students and personnel to effectuate programming
- General communications with program participants and craft community
- Promotion and marketing of organization and programs
- Managing social media accounts, email marketing, and website backend
- Working special events (some evenings and weekends required)

Required Skills
- A strong interest in craft, design, and creative manufacturing
- Excellent communication skills: speak, write, and edit clearly, effectively, and articulately. 
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently once tasks are assigned
- Self Motivated
- Familiarity with Google Work Suite: Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentations, etc. 
- Familiarity with Social Media and e-marketing including: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and mail chimp
- Familiarity with managing templated website backend (squarespace).

Preferred skills
- Proficiency in adobe Photoshop, illustrator, indesign
- Familiarity with arts, culture, or education non-profit activities including grant writing and tracking, fundraising, and event planning
