Knifemaking Workshop | Session 1 (Summer 2018)

In this two day blacksmithing workshop you will hand forge a full tang knife with a blade no longer than 6 inches out of high carbon steel, harden the blade, grind and handle it. We will be focused on a variety of functional kitchen knives. 

This 2-day workshop meets:
June 30th & July 1st, 2018
from 10am-5pm

at Smith Shop
(180 Victor St, Highland Park)

Materials and safety equipment provided. You may bring your own safety equipment and hand tools if you prefer (hammers, files, tongs, safety glasses, gloves, etc)

Instructor Biography: 

Amy Weiks is the co-owner and co-founder of Smith Shop. She began her art career as a photographer before studying printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, Scotland. She discovered metalsmithing in 2004 and incorporated it into her already formidable technical skill set. Amy’s innate sense of form and composition along with her detail oriented nature help drive Smith Shop’s exacting standards of quality. Amy has shown her artwork nationally and internationally including exhibitions at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in Houston, TX, The Bellevue Arts Museum in Bellevue, WA, and Galerie Marzee in Nijmegen, Netherlands. In 2013 Weiks had a solo exhibition at Velvet da Vinci, a noted jewelry gallery in San Francisco, CA. She received her BFA from Western Michigan University her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art.
