Introduction to Screen Printing: Your Art on a Tote Bag (Session II) with Melissa Dettloff

In this small, hands-on class, learn the basics of screen printing and go home with a tote bag printed with your own design. We will use simple, computer-free methods to create artwork to print. Each participant will create in class their own one-color artwork, using ink and markers for drawn artwork, letters and stickers, and/or cut paper shapes. We will then print our designs onto tote bags.

Techniques covered in this class include:

  • ●  Preparing handmade artwork for screen printing

  • ●  Coating and exposing screens

  • ●  Setting up a tote bag print run on a t-shirt press

  • ●  Printing with plastisol ink and cleaning up

Three tote bags and all other materials are provided.

This class is great for anyone who has never done screen printing, or for those who have but would like to brush up on their skills.

Please note that due to the nature of screen printing, we will be standing for much of the class.

This class will meet on Saturday, May 26, 10am to 4pm at
Ocelot Print Shop:
3535 Cass Ave
Detroit, MI 48201

The print shop and its entrance are in the back of the building. There is a free parking lot off of Brainard St.
