Beginning Blacksmithing - Weekend Intensive, January 2018

This two day weekend intensive will introduce students to blacksmithing by focusing on various forging techniques including tapering, shouldering, fullering, twisting, drifting and more. We will also cover non-forging techniques such as riveting, cutting, grinding, drilling and finishing. Students will complete one small project during the course while working towards one or more substantial work. The curriculum is the same as our beginning blacksmithing class, only compressed into one weekend.  Limit 4 students.

Saturday & Sunday January 20th & 21st, 9am - 5pm $485, most material included.

Instructor Biography: 

Jordan Reeves began his metals training as an apprentice to Charlottesville, Virginia jeweler Martha Keith. After serving in the Peace Corps in Shargaljuut Soum, Mongolia from 2012-2014, Jordan returned to Charlottesville to work under goldsmith Maria Van Beek before working as a production metalsmith for the Silver Ring Splint Company. Before deciding to pursue metalsmithing full-time Jordan received degrees in Philosophy and Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Virginia. Jordan currently works as a metalsmith at Smith Shop, a custom metalworking studio in Detroit.
